Facilities
Johnston is working on developing their first dog park. The original dog park was to be located south of Ray Schleihs Park. The land was donated by Woda Cooper. This dog park would be for large and small dogs. The large dogs will have 0.64 acres to enjoy and the small dogs will have 0.38 acres.
The Johnston Parks Department is looking to make a larger dog park for the community to enjoy. This park would be south of Johnston Drive, across the street from the original plan, which is Prairie Crossing. The larger park would be around 4 acres. There would be combo parking included for the trailhead/dog park.
The land as it stands today has many trees, and the intention is to leave most of the trees should this get developed. The concept shows it to be more open only to provide a visualization of the area. The Park Board is also looking at a "wet” area that will either be marshy or dug out to contain a small pond.
